egg harbor bluff home

This home was not just a dream come true for the owners, but for Crosswinds Design, as well. Just like the clients, who served as inspiration, the home has many aspects to its personality. It is welcoming and inviting, with a laid-back elegance that feels comfortable to family and friends. Custom finishes are found everywhere in this home, from the cabinetry, to the three fireplaces, and the one-of-kind staircase treatment. Intentional use of incorporating the owners’ art and furniture with new pieces and fun lighting brought a cohesive feeling of being instantly at home in their new space. The water view here is fabulous and easily admired from the many windows in the house, making this home a dream come true for many generations to come.

In the spring of 2021 we bought this property. During the summer the design for the house was refined and completed. Before the end of 2021 we hired Chris Darling of Crosswinds to design the home we moved into in June of 2023.

We built our previous home and its multiple additions in Fish Creek. This time around we knew we needed the expertise of a strong design professional to match the architecture of this new house on the bluff. We were smart enough to know we could not do it ourselves. It did not take long for Chris to earn the trust of both our architect and our builder. In fact this troika became a team that collaborated very well together during the difficult home-building environment that existed in 2021-23 – shortages and delays of just about everything!

In our first meeting with Chris we talked about our lifestyle and wishes for this home. We wanted her to narrow the options she presented to us to 3-5; it did not take long for us to make decisions and for her to know which option we would choose. We made decisions about doors and hardware, floors and wall finishes, cabinetry and lighting – all of the bones of the house that set the stage for the eventual interior design.

Chris worked with every trade and subcontractor and coordinated the details with the Forestville construction crew. From electricians to wallpaper hanger to painters, even the landscaper – every detail was overseen and approved by Chris. She made sure we did not settle for anything less than the original design; the few changes we did make actually turned out better!

Chris was on site the day before and the day of our move. After all the furniture was unloaded and placed in the house, we were all very excited – everything worked. A few days later when the “soft” design elements were in place – we were ecstatic.

We are living in this spectacular home which we just could not have imagined without Chris Darling. She took our dreams, elevated and executed them to become our beautiful new home.
